COMMODORE’S LETTER
Dear J/70 Competitor,
I would like to extend you a warm welcome to the 2021 J/70 World Championships. The journey to get here has been challenging but the J/70 class stuck with it and California Yacht Club is delighted to host this prestigious regatta.
With 62 competitors from 11 countries, competition is going to be tough, and I am sure you are looking forward to it as much as we are.
The planning for a regatta of this magnitude does not happen overnight and despite all that has occurred during the pandemic the team here at CYC led by regatta Chair Marylyn Hoenemeyer has never wavered. We are looking forward to offering you world class racing on the beautiful Santa Monica Bay and good times ashore.
As Commodore for California Yacht Club’s 99th year my theme is “Keep Calm and Sail On” which has served us well as we navigated all the restrictions that COVID-19 put upon us. I am thrilled that we have weathered the worse of the storm and can now embrace the “Sail On” part and appreciate the sport we all enjoy so much.
With any regatta the most important part is you, the competitor. I want to thank you for staying the course and making the effort to join us here at California Yacht Club for what will be the 7th J/70 World Championships.
It is a great honor to be Commodore during this regatta and I am delighted that I can join you on the water as a fellow competitor.
I hope you enjoy your time here at California Yacht Club, and good luck out on the race course!
Sincerely,
Tim Clarke
